In medieval England, the concept took on significant legal weight. Courts would address actions that caused damage or inconvenience to land or public rights, such as blocking a road or polluting a stream, classifying them as "nuisances." While the legal definition remains, the phrase soon broke free from the courtroom, entering everyday speech to describe anything from a buzzing fly to an irritating person, carrying with it that ancient echo of disruption and annoyance.
