Origin

Finna is a brilliant piece of linguistic shorthand, born from the natural tendency to compress words in rapid, informal speech. It didn't just appear out of nowhere; it's an evolution. First came "going to," then the streamlined "gonna," which dropped the 'g' sound. But "finna" took it further, often emerging from a quick pronunciation of "fixin' to," meaning "preparing to" or "about to." While "fixin' to" has deep roots in Southern American English, the "finna" contraction, as we know it today, gained significant traction and spread largely through African American Vernacular English (AAVE).
