Origin

Imagine trying to build a brain, not from flesh and blood, but from mathematics and code. That's the core idea behind neural networks, a concept first sparked in 1943 by neurophysiologist Warren McCulloch and logician Walter Pitts. They published a paper outlining how artificial "neurons" could operate as a network, mimicking the firing of biological neurons to process information. Their work, a bold blend of biology and logic, laid the theoretical groundwork, but it was still a paper concept. Then, in the late 1950s, Frank Rosenblatt brought the idea to life with the Perceptron, a single-layer neural network designed to learn from data, even demonstrating it on custom hardware. This early success ignited a flurry of excitement, though subsequent limitations led to a period of disillusionment. But like a persistent thought, the concept never truly died, only to be dramatically resurrected decades later with increased computing power and vast datasets, proving that the human brain's intricate design holds endless inspiration for our artificial creations.
