The powerful image of scales balancing right and wrong has been a cornerstone of justice since antiquity. In ancient Egypt, the goddess Ma'at used scales to weigh the hearts of the dead against a feather of truth, determining their eternal fate. Later, the Greek Titaness Themis and her Roman counterpart Justitia, often depicted blindfolded and holding scales, symbolized impartiality and the precise measurement of evidence.
